Northside Festival is set to take place this year from June 7 to 11 in Brooklyn, New York. They previously revealed their musical lineup, which featured Dirty Projectors, Miguel, Kamasi Washington, and more. The festival has now announced their first Northside Report, a two-day event in collaboration with First Look Media and BuzzFeed News as part of Northside Innovation. Among the participants will be New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald, and Winnie Wong—the co-founder of People for Bernie and creator of #FeelTheBern. Programming for the event includes conversations about the role of the media, new journalism, feminism, and more. The event will take place June 8-9. Find more information here.

In 2015, director Grant McPhee released The Big Gold Dream, a documentary tracking Scottish indie labels Fast Product and Postcard Records, and how they contributed to the rise of bands like Orange Juice, the Jesus & Mary Chain, and Teenage Fanclub. Now, the second installment of that “Sound of Young Scotland” series, titled Teenage Superstar, is gearing up for release. The documentary focuses on Glasgow in the ’80s and includes interviews with some of the people behind Creation Records, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Primal Scream. “This is a film that shows people what they can achieve when they break the rules,” McPhee said in a press release. To complete the project, the film’s creators have launched a crowd funding campaign. They seek £20,000 or over $25,000. Besides posters, mugs, and other memorability, a donation of £1250 will earn backers an associate producer credit.
The Afghan Whigs have added a new batch of North American dates to their world tour in support of their forthcoming album In Spades, which is out May 5 via Sub Pop. The band will perform at 28 cities in the United States and Canada. Besides their sold out New York show on May 23, the band officially kicks off their North American tour on September 6 in Orlando. The Afghan Whigs previously announced European tour dates. See their full itinerary below. They will be joined by Har Mar Superstar for all of their newly announced North American dates.

Eddie Vedder recently performed at the Hot Stove Cool Music benefit concert, raising money for “nonprofit agencies benefiting urban youth and families,” as CoS points out. During the show, the Pearl Jam frontman performed his own music and covered a variety of other artists, including Talking Heads (“Love -> Building on Fire”), Bruce Springsteen (“Bobby Jean”), the Rolling Stones (“Waiting on a Friend”) and more. Interpol have updated their Turn On the Bright Lightsanniversary tour with new U.S. tour dates. The band’s previously announced itinerary only featured shows in Europe; they will now play fall dates in New York City and Los Angeles, at Forest Hills Stadium and LA State Historic Park respectively. They will be joined by Deerhunter and Battles at these shows, which will be the only U.S. performances of Turn On the Bright Lights on this current run. Find their full tour schedule below.

Black Lips’ new album Satan’s graffiti or God’s art?, out May 5 via Vice Records, is produced by Sean Lennon. On the album, the Atlanta garage rock mainstays are joined by their producer’s legendary mother. Listen to “Occidental Front,” which stars Yoko Ono, below. The follow-up to 2014’s Underneath the Rainbow is their first album to feature the band’s new members Oakley Munson (drums) and Zumi Rosow (saxophone). It also includes contributions from Fat White Family’s Saul Adamczewski.
Fyre Festival founders Ja Rule and Billy McFarland are the subjects of a $100 million lawsuit filed Sunday in California by celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos, Variety reports. Geragos is seeking class-action status for the suit, which anticipates “more than 150 plaintiffs.” The suit was filed on behalf of plaintiff Daniel Jung, who is seeking “$5 million in damages for alleged fraud, breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith, and negligent misrepresentation,” according to Variety. Scheduled to take place in the Bahamas this past weekend, the luxury festival devolved into chaos and was soon postponed. The Bahama Ministry of Tourism issued a statement, Ja Rule apologized, and McFarland explained what went wrong, promising a make-up festival next year. The suit claims that the “festival’s lack of adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care created a dangerous and panicked situation among attendees,” who found themselves “stranded on a remote island without basic provisions.” It states that the situation “was closer to The Hunger Games or Lord of the Flies than Coachella.”
On Sunday, Ja Rule took to Twitter to issue an update on the situation. “Relieved to share that all guest are safe, and have been sent the form to apply for a refund,” he wrote. The Fyre Festival Twitter account added, “We’re heartbroken that we let down all the guests who put their faith in us. To our guests and staff—thank you again for your all patience as we navigate our next steps. We owe you an apology.”
