In 1994, critic Simon Reynolds coined the term post-rock. A new book called fearless.: The Making of Post-Rock by Jeanette Leech chronicles the subgenre and its groundbreaking artists like Slint, Talk Talk, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. fearless. “explores how the strands of post-rock entwined, frayed, and created one of the most diverse bodies of music ever to huddle under one name,” according to a press release. Find the cover art below (designed by Graham Sutton of Bark Psychosis). The book features rare images and exclusive interviews with members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, Tortoise, Stereolab, AR Kane, Disco Inferno, Fridge, Codeine, UT, and more. The 392-page book is out June 6 via Jawbone Press.

Grandaddy’s Kevin Garcia Dead at 41

Grandaddy bassist Kevin Garcia has died, the band revealed on Facebook. He was 41. The band said Garcia suffered a “massive stroke” on Monday, which, according to a GoFundMe page set up for his medical costs, doctors described as catastrophic. He died from the effects of the stroke earlier today. “We were all able to say goodbye to him and he was surrounded by his closest friends and family here in Modesto,” the band wrote. “He was an actual angel. He navigated life with a grace, a generosity and a kindness that was utterly unique. And contagious. He is loved so deeply by so many.”

Garcia was a founding member of Grandaddy. They released their debut album Under the Western Freeway in 1997, which was followed by 2000’s The Sophtware Slump, 2003’s Sumday, and 2006’s Just Like the Fambly Cat. They split up in 2006, and a few years later, returned for a series of reunion concerts. After a 10-year hiatus, Grandaddy returned in March with a new album, Last Place. The band have a tour scheduled from May 7 through June. The band have asked that people contribute to the GoFundMe to help with Garcia’s family’s coming expenses.

Chance the Rapper Cancels European Festival Dates

Chance the Rapper has reportedly cancelled a series of appearances at European music festivals this summer, Consequence of Sound reports. He was set to perform at Øya in Oslo, Way Out West in Gothenburg, HAVEN in Copenhagen, and Pukkelpop in Hasselt. “This is due to scheduling conflicts beyond his control,” reads a statement on Way Out West’s website. “Chance sends his apologies to his fans and looks forward to returning to Europe soon.” Pukkelpop’s statement adds that they’re locking down “a worthy replacement.” Last year, Chance was forced to cancel European shows due to “personal reasons.” Pitchfork has reached out to Chance’s representative for comment.

Watch Trevor Noah, Jimmy Fallon, More Roast Fyre Festival

Fyre Festival, the new luxury festival co-founded and organized by Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland, was scheduled to take place in the Bahamas this weekend. The festival was plagued by chaos and eventually postponed. Last night, Jimmy Fallon, Conon O’Brien, and Trevor Noah of “The Daily Show” all addressed the disaster during their respective programs. “I know a lot of people feel robbed, but here’s my suggestion,” Noah said. “Think of this whole ordeal as a really immersive refugee experience. Don’t get mad, get woke.” Check out clips from the shows below.

After the disaster went viral, the Bahama Ministry of Tourism issued a statement, Ja Rule apologized, saying that the fest was “NOT A SCAM,” and McFarland explained the disaster, promising a make-up festival next year. On Sunday, Ja Rule took to Twitter to issue an update on the situation. Seth Rogan and The Lonely Island revealed that they’ve coincidentally been working on a movie about “a music festival that goes HORRIBLY WRONG.” The fest most recently gave ticketholders the option to opt-in to VIP status for next year’s fest, as opposed to a refund.

Haim to Release New Song “Want You Back” Tomorrow

Haim have announced a new song, “Want You Back.” It comes out tomorrow, and is taken from their upcoming album Something to Tell You, which is due out July 7. According to a tweet, the new song is premiering at 2:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. GMT on BBC Radio 1. The Haim sisters recently shared the first new song off their new album, "Right Now,” which came with a Paul Thomas Anderson-directed clip. They also announced they’re performing on “SNL” May 13. Earlier this year, the group teased the follow up to 2013’s Days Are Gone with mysterious billboards and a short trailer.

Watch Gorillaz Awkwardly Freestyle on “Sway in the Morning”

Gorillaz are currently doing press appearances behind their most recent album Humanz. Frontman Damon Albarn brought along producer/songwriter Twilite Tone and Pos of De La Soul to “Sway in the Morning,” where they concluded a half-hour interview with—as is customary on “Sway”—a freestyle. Albarn looks positively mortified at the prospect before saying, “Alright, fuck it. Let’s see what happens.” “Mine might be singing-based,” he continues, eventually settling into a pattern as Twilite Tone takes a stab at rapping. Deftones’ Chino Moreno Breaks Foot Mid-Concert, Keeps Playing: Video

On Saturday, April 29, Deftones performed at Belgium’s Groezrock festival, as they continue to tour behind last year’s Gore. During the show, frontman Chino Moreno broke the top of his foot, but managed to complete the set, as NME points out. As the video below shows, Moreno appeared to fall off the stage mid-song and continue singing; after climbing back up, he seemingly fell and splayed out on the floor, before getting up and resuming business. As a result of the injury, Deftones have canceled only one show (last night in Cologne, Germany), a representative has confirmed. The band intend to play future dates, including tonight in Paris.
