Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, Kingdom Join DEDE for New Song “Faultline”: Listen

DEDE is the L.A.-based singer best known as the vocalist in Tiny Hearts. Today, she’s shared a new song featuring Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, and produced by Kingdom and frequent collaborator Tim K. It’s called “Faultline,” and it is the first single from her debut solo album, Panoply, which is due out this summer via Fresh Selects. “I met Ed at a party through a mutual friend. We ended up bonding over politics and watched the presidential debates together,” said in a statement. “We both couldn’t shake the feeling of impending doom in the aftermath of the election. The song is a reflection of how we were feeling at that time.” Listen to “Faultline” below.

Grizzly Bear’s latest album, Shields, came out in 2012. The band have recently been teasing new music. In her statement, DEDE said Droste “played [her] the incredible new GB record.”

Listen to PJ Harvey’s New Song “A Dog Called Money”

PJ Harvey has a new double A-side 7” vinyl. It features two new songs, “A Dog Called Money” and “I’ll Be Waiting.” Harvey worked with Flood and longtime collaborator John Parish on the songs. One thousand copies of the vinyl are available on her current tour. Today, Lauren Laverne premiered one of the new tracks on her BBC Radio 6 show. Listen to “A Dog Called Money” here, beginning at the 1:51:13 mark (via Spin/The Line of Best Fit). Both songs are out digitally tomorrow via Island Records.

The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach Shares Video for New Song “King of a One Horse Town”: Watch

On June 2, Dan Auerbach (of the Black Keys and the Arcs) will release a new solo album called Waiting on a Song (via his new label, Easy Eye Sound). Today, he’s shared the music video for a new song from the record called “King of a One Horse Town.” It’s directed by Aaron Hymes, who describes the visual as “A Day in the life of a ‘King of a One Horse Town.’” In a statement, Auerbach, said “The King of a One Horse Town is anyone who’s scared of the outside world. Anyone who’s afraid to go beyond their own block for fear of failure. It could be a drug dealer. A drunk. A professor. Living in LA can make it kind of challenging to shoot something that hasn’t been seen before. Almost every square inch of this area has already been put on film. I wanted to shoot somewhere that could give an “Anytown USA” vibe, so we drove all over the state of Utah from the salt flats to a little town called Helper capturing bits and pieces from towns along the way. The goal was to make it feel kind of androgynous and not anywhere specific. Utah was perfect for that.

Mac DeMarco Tells Marc Maron His Life Story: Listen

As he gears up to release his new album, This Old Dog, Mac DeMarco stopped by Marc Maron’s podcast “WTF.” They talked in depth about DeMarco’s upbringing in the oil-rich Canadian city of Edmonton (“It’s like cold Texas—even crazier”), discussing his mom’s opera career, the reality of growing up in a “homophobic” “hockey town” where playing in a band was deemed suspect, and the mythology of an old Edmonton mall where runaway ravers supposedly reside among living penguins. Mac touches on his relationship with his dad, and how he reacted upon hearing “My Old Man,” which addresses that relationship: “He gives me a call once in a while: ‘Heard your song about me kid!’ I was like, Wait till you hear the rest, buddy.” They also discussed Mac’s amputee grandfather and his unlikely saxophone career, as well as the music of John Mayer, Jonathan Richman, Steely Dan, and Michael McDonald (with whom DeMarco recently lunched). The episode also featured a rare conversation with Mark Lanegan, who’s promoting a tour and album. He reflected on his indoctrination into music via an Iggy Pop comic, forming a band in a small town in Washington, Screaming Trees’ signing to SST, becoming addicted to various drugs, working with Nirvana, PJ Harvey, and Isobel Campbell, and finally recouping with Sub Pop “after like 17 years” when he released his 2013 solo anthology.

This Old Dog is the follow-up to DeMarco’s mini-album Another One. It’s also his first full-length since 2014’s Salad Days, and is out May 5 via Captured Tracks. It includes the previously shared title track (and its weird video), “My Old Man,” and “On the Level.”

Haim Announce New Album Something to Tell You

Haim have announced the title of their sophomore album. The follow up to 2013’s Days Are Gone, out July 7, is called Something to Tell You. It’s produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, and the band also worked with Rostam Batamanglij (formerly of Vampire Weekend). The news follows the release this morning of a new song, “Right Now,” whose Paul Thomas Anderson-directed video you can watch below. Next month, the band are set to appear on “SNL.” Read more about the album release and Anderson collaboration here. In recent weeks, Haim have teased new music with mysterious billboards and short trailers in which Danielle Haim plays drums.

Haim Share Video for New Song “Right Now,” Reveal Album Release Date: Watch

Haim have announced their second album and shared a video featuring a new song. Something to Tell You, the follow up to 2013’s excellent Days Are Gone, will arrive July 7. The video, a live studio recording of new song “Right Now,” is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Check it out below. Anderson has history with the Haim family: Below, hear the unlikely story of how the sisters’ mom came to be his school-teacher, from the band’s new interview with Beats 1. Este also recounts serving Melissa McCarthy, who will host them on “SNL” next month, as a waitress at a burger restaurant. Earlier this year, Haim teased their new music by putting up billboards worldwide and sharing a pair of short trailers. They are set to perform on May 13 episode of “SNL.”

My mom was studying to be a teacher and to get your credential as a teacher you have to shadow another teacher and get your hours in. My mom gets a gig teaching credential gig at a school in the Valley. First twist: My mom is shadowing the teacher at the school. First week, the teacher has a heart attack in the in the parking lot of the school and my mom becomes the sole art teacher at this school. In one week. My mom was younger than me, like 22/23, and she now has 5 or 6 classes of kids that she now is the teacher for. She would always talk about this one kid named Paul. That she loved this kid Paul, he was very energetic, artistic, vivacious. We'd turn the TV on and Boogie Nights would come on or Magnolia and our mom was like, 'oh that’s Paul’s movie.' That being Paul Thomas Anderson. We were like, Mom are you talking about Paul Thomas Anderson? And she was like, 'Yes that is Paul, I taught Paul.'

Unreleased Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s” Outtake Unearthed: Listen

The Beatles recently announced the reissue of their 1967 classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Across its various packages are previously unreleased studio takes of each song, one of which, a version of the title track, is streaming now via the Guardian. Check out the recording (complete with studio chatter) below. The super deluxe box set includes another 15 recordings from the Sgt. Pepper sessions—most of them previously unreleased—as well as a 144-page book. Paul McCartney said in a press release, “It’s crazy to think that 50 years later we are looking back on this project with such fondness and a little bit of amazement at how four guys, a great producer and his engineers could make such a lasting piece of art.” The reissue, remastered by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, is out May 26 via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe.
