Pharrell Addresses Gender Inequality in NYU Commencement Speech: Watch

Pharrell addressed the New York University Class of 2017 on behalf of the honorary degree recipients during the school’s 185th Commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium today. Watch the speech below. During the speech he addressed gender inequality and women’s rights. “Imagine the possibilities when women are not held back,” he said. “The world that you will live in that will be a lot better. This is the first generation that navigates with the security and confidence to treat women as equals.” 

Pharrell has been an active participant at the university. Last year, he held a masterclass at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts as part of a 50th anniversary Artist-In-Residency. He listened to music produced by students and discussed his creative process. High school students from the institutes Future Music Moguls program were invited to observe the masterclass.
