PWR BTTM Cancel Tour: Report

After Ben Hopkins was accused of sexual abuse and anti-SemitismPWR BTTM are reportedly cancelling their tour. While the band have yet to make an official statement, two venues told Pitchfork that they’ve received word that the tour has been cancelled and that the band’s statement would be made soon. St. Louis venue Off Broadway confirmed that news on Facebook. Thus far, dates have been cancelled in Missoula, New Orleans, Chicago, Providence, Montreal, Tallahassee, Orlando, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, and Durham. Their planned appearance at Hopscotch Music Festival has also been cancelled. The event page for the band’s Los Angeles show has been removed. Pitchfork has reached out to the band’s representatives for comment.

Many of the venues cited the recent allegations against Hopkins as the reason for cancelling shows. “We do not take these allegations lightly and stand firmly in support of survivors of sexual assault everywhere,” Chicago’s Subterranean wrote in a statement. Blue Skies Turn Black in Montreal wrote that they “cannot/will not support sexual predators/anti semitism in our scene and hence this event unequivocally is cancelled.”

After an anonymous woman gave an interview to Jezebel describing an alleged sexual assault by Hopkins, the label Polyvinyl announced that it would no longer distribute the band’s music. Father/Daughter Records, who released the band’s debut album, also cut ties with the band and announced they would no longer sell PWR BTTM records or merch. Two of PWR BTTM’s touring members distanced themselves from the band, and multiple tour openers—T-RextasyNnamdi OgbonnayaTancred, and iji—all pulled out of their planned shows.
