Watch Nas and Jack White Cover a 1920s Blues Song

American Epic is a new three-part documentary series, recording project, and feature film created by Jack White with T-Bone Burnett and Robert Redford centered on the pioneering days of recorded sound. In a new clip from the documentary, Jack White collaborates with Nas on a rendition of the Memphis Jug Band’s “On the Road Again,” a song that dates back to the 1920s. “It’s the same as rap music today,” Nas says, “They were rapping about street life and gangster life and hustling, just a dark side of the world.” Watch the clip below, via Rolling Stone. Nas and White’s performance will appear in the American Epic Sessions concert film, set to debut June 6 on PBS. The documentary series premieres May 16.

The music from American Epic will be issued in a series of releases from Legacy Recordings and Jack White’s Third Man Record. There’s a 100-song box set titled American Epic: The Collection, as well as the companion soundtrack album (American Epic: The Soundtrack), both due out May 12. The sessions recordings (American Epic: The Sessions) will be released on June 9 via Columbia.
