Kanye’s Life of Pablo Becomes First Streaming-Only Album to Go Platinum

Kanye West’s most recently studio album The Life of Pablo has gone platinum, making it the first streaming-only album in history to gain RIAA certification. The album has been streamed over 3 billion times worldwide since its release, and was also the first streaming-only album to hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Since the release of Pablo, Kanye embarked on (then later cancelled) the Saint Pablo Tour, and sparked controversy when he met with Donald Trump at Trump Tower after Trump’s surprise presidential win. He most recently featured on a song off Mary J. Blige’s new album called “Love Yourself.”

Revisit where Kanye West’s output placed on Pitchfork’s Best Music Videos, Best Songs, and Best Albums of 2016 lists. Check out our feature “The Year in Streaming 2016” as well.
