Carrie Brownstein to Make Directorial Debut With New Film Fairy Godmother

Carrie Brownstein will make her directorial debut with a new film called Fairy Godmother, Deadline reports. The film, based on a screenplay from playwright Chiara Atik, is a comic reimagining of the classic fairytale. A Fairy Godmother, Faye, gets hired by a teenager named Kenzie to help find her true love, a prince, but the prince falls for Faye instead. Helen Estabrook (Whiplash) will produce the film. Brownstein, who is the co-creator, -writer, and -star of the IFC comedy “Portlandia,” has previously directed episodes of the show, Hulu’s “Casual,” and Comedy Central’s “Idiotsitter,” but this is her first foray into cinema.
